Article: 2.3.2 Shadowstep Week 1 Conclusion
January 12th, 2008 by Ziss · 18 Comments

With the new 2.3.2 patch, many Rogues are left wondering which spec will be the replacement of AR/Prep. The spot light is on one of the abilities that has been deemed ‘worthless’ for almost 1 year, Shadowstep.

This ability has been receiving the most attention and buffs in the last couple patches. Going from only usable in Stealth and giving no bonus aside from the teleport effect, to the current usable outside of Stealth, grants 20% damage to next special attack as well as giving a 3 seconds mini sprint per use.

We all know the sacrifice you have to make in order to pick up Shadowstep…

News: Battlegrounds: Hammer Comes Down on AFKers
January 11th, 2008 by Magog · 15 Comments

Quick note… not much needs to be said, I’ll just let the blue do the talking:

“In our continued efforts to support fair gameplay in World of Warcraft and to provide a positive experience for players, we are currently taking steps to ensure fair and enjoyable competition in the Battlegrounds. Starting immediately, we will be issuing warnings and penalties, including suspensions and the removal of Honor points and recently acquired Honor rewards, for non-participation in Battleground games.

We are taking action against thousands of accounts immediately, and will continue to monitor these situations and regularly take action against violators. If you encounter a player in a Battleground who is intentionally not participating in the battle for an extended period of time, please help us track the situation and report the player as AFK. For information on how to complete an in-game AFK report, please go here: (http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/pvp/battlegrounds/info.html). All reports will be thoroughly investigated, and corrective action will only be taken if the violation is confirmed.

Thank you for your support and best of luck to you in all of your games in the Battlegrounds!” -Bornakk

What do you guys think? Too harsh or something that had to be done?

News: 1337 PvP Personalities: Serennia, Cherekee, Neilyo/Mattyo and… Athen
January 9th, 2008 by Magog · 12 Comments

SK Gaming recently put up a couple interviews of some notable WoW PvP personalities: Serennia and Cherekee. I’m not usually a fan of these type of celeb features, but these two are particularly well done with many thoughtful questions, answers, and insights. Definitely worth the read.

Love him or hate him, and everyone seems to have an opinion about him. Regardless, Serennia is an (in)famous warrior on BG9 and a dedicated PvPer. Here’s his interview on his thoughts of all things about warriors and arenas.

As for Cherekee, according to SK’s new World Player Ranking — which ranks players by their combined ratings across all three brackets — this Hunter from Talnivarr (EU) is on top with an impressive average of 2319 rating in all brackets. Read his interview for some opinions from a top rated arena player from across the pond.

And for you Rogues (and Mages), there is also a quick Q&A with Neilyo and Mattyo and their thoughts on 2.3.2 changes.

atheneFinally for some fun: Athene, “the best Paladin in the world” (with Merciless Gladiator and a hot girl, who’s to argue), is resurrected and back as the 1337 King. His new project, “Wrath of the 1337 King”, is a full length mockumentary (think “Spinal Tap“) about his life as a “pro” gamer. Check out his site for more details and a trailer/teaser — download the (NSFW) uncensored trailer as YouTube does not go to 11.

News: 2.3.2 Live, BlizzCast This Week, Armory Fixed (Maybe)
January 8th, 2008 by Magog · 3 Comments

It took awhile after the holiday doldrums, but Blizzard is finally back in the swing. Todays weekly maintenance will bring Patch 2.3.2 live — otherwise known as the end of HARP. Aside from Rogues, Mages also got some significant changes… most notably trainable Ice Block. Also don’t forget to check your latency/lag/ping after the patch, for many players it will be lower with Blizzard disabling the Nagle algorithm (no more Windows tweaking needed) — a bonus for twitchy PvPer’s.

For those who have forgotten the other little changes in the patch, as always, I’ve highlighted the PvP specific changes in the patch notes at the end of this article.

As for 2.4, Blizzard continues to tease and tantalize:

“Tons of content that’s sure to blow your mind, AND it’s coming…”soon”!” -Eyonix

This hype about 2.4 falls right in line with the BlizzCast that will take place this week. According to Blizzplanet, the BlizzCast is scheduled to take place Thursday, January 10th. Hopefully they do not disappoint on the PvP end.

And finally we have this note from Eyonix saying that the Armory is now fixed… although I’m still getting “character data unavailable” for just about all my searches. Oh well, I guess I need to wait “some time for each character to update”. Read More

News: Happy (Day After) New Year
January 2nd, 2008 by Magog · 1 Comment »

Happy New Year to all. Sorry for the lack of information over the holidays, but with blue taking a vacation, there just hasn’t been much newsworthy PvP information. Hopefully all this will change soon:

While I understand players’ frustrations about the dearth of information, please keep in mind that we can’t always dictate that is announced when. There are factors such as development progress, release coordination, and such.

For the Community team, our current focus is to bring you more information about the upcoming 2.4 patch. There are several features in there that we think you will love, and we want to get that information out once we are back in the office.

Happy New Year,
Tyren

Couple other things of interest:

- the SK site mentioned last week also added a feature showing most popular setups and average rating with each particular setup. It’s worth a look.

- for those interested in videos, here is a decent list on the EJ forums sorted by class.
