3v3: The Learning Curve

As many of you already know, a team of Rogue, Shadow Priest and Restoration Shaman took first on ladder for Battlegroup Bloodlust a few weeks back. Having already achieved 1st on the 3v3 ladder for my Battlegroup with Rogue/Mage/Priest, I was surprised by their high winning ratio. Shortly after, I decided to try out their lineup. We planned on going to WSVG and it was wise to, at least, learn this team’s weakness.
Oddly, unlike the previous popular setups, such as Rogue, Mage, Priest, this one really took some learning to get used to. We used a 2060 team to start things off since pre-2100 doesn’t really put the lineup to the test. Read More

Adding another one to the Rogue and Holy Priest series, we start with the juicy strategies on how to win against some of the hardest match ups.
Starting off with Soul-linked Warlock and Druid, this 2v2 combo brings fear to many teams. First of all it is nearly impossible to outlast them. With the Warlock being the only spell caster with unlimited mana, and Druid the most mobile of the healers, they definitely benefit from many aspects of the arena game. With a pet on Warlock’s side, they can easily prevent most healers from going out of combat and drinking. To make things simple, we can summarize the goal of this 2v2 lineup is to outlasting their opponents to victory. It would seem as all odds are stacked in their favorite. Read More

Shamans in Arena, The True Hybrid Part 2

The next spec for arena pvp shamans is the Restoration spec. Although this spec for shamans is not largely popular in arena play, it is still used on several top teams, including “We Lose Cause Daorok Sux”, the recent champions of Blizzards official season 1 5v5 world finals. Because of this, restoration shamans in 5v5 play especially, have grown. They still are by no means the preferred healers for most, and there are several reason in why this would be the case. In 3v3 and 2v2 arena though, restoration shamans are the preferred spec for shamans interestingly enough. According to geekboys.org, restoration shamans make up more than 90% of 2v2 and 3v3 teams with a shaman. They are also a lot more popular in these brackets on top teams because of the great support they still bring, while also being great healers if played right and matched up right. This article will look into the arena scene with restoration specced shamans and there benefits and lacking compared to others. Read More

I apologize again for the long downtime. As things settle down for me, I’ll have more time to write articles. I also have a large inventory of good Arena matches which I want to add in commentary as soon as I can.
To pick up where we left off in part 1 of this, we stumbled across the fact that Rogues are quite versatile in their Spec choices. I want to touch up again on why Mutilate was cut out as a 2v2 Arena choice. First off, the Positional requirement is very painful against Warriors and other Rogues. Considering how hard it is to kill a Shaman, Paladin or Druid when a Warrior is on you. Being a Spec without Preparation, your only choice would be to turn on the Warrior once the kiting begins. Today’s focus is the start on a series of articles breaking down 2 versus 2 Arena match ups between Rogue partnered with Holy Priest against combos they are likely to face in high level play.
If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself, you will succumb in every battle.

Knowledge of yourself is important, as are knowledge of your opponents. It’s been a known fact for many decades and it still applies on anything competitive today. World of Warcraft Arena is no exception. In order to defeat a combo, you must first understand what they’re capable of doing and what tools you have to defeat them. As the articles will be very detailed, we will start off by talking about the strengths and weaknesses of the Rogue class.
