Synergy in Arena, The Building Block

Synergy – “The interaction of two or more agents or forces so that their combined effect is greater than the sum of their individual effects.” This is the dictionary definition of what synergy is. Basically, the combination of two classes together brings a lot more to the table than just two of the same classes paired together. Synergy in arena has been developed through the first couple of seasons, and several combinations have been found to work very well together. This article will look over some of the more popular synergies that exist, along with explaining what creates great synergy, and how it’s used in all brackets. Read More

Mods and PvP: oTweaks

I will be periodically highlighting useful addons/tweaks — and as with all material here on this site, it will be specifically oriented to PvP/arenas. Very briefly on addons and PvP: although I don’t mind loading up my UI with addons for PvE, it’s a different matter for PvP. While there are many addons that give very useful information, they can be very harmful in PvP if they take your eyes and brain off the action going on in front of you.
Instead of thinking of addons as something that pops up on your screen to tell you what to do, think of them as tweaks to your UI that can help improve your PvP experience… much like adjusting settings on gaming keyboards or mice.
With that short caveat out of the way, the first addon I’m featuring is oTweaks… Read More

There are many general tips for play in the Arena, such as: kiting melee, pre-healing a target, spell-lock or CC when about to burst, etc. But, there is one general tip that, although seems very basic, can be very advanced and used very effectively against top Arena competition. Line of Sight (LoS) has always been an integral part of the WoW game for both PvE and PvP content. It has become especially crucial in the Arena scene, as it is a very valuable tactic against all ranged classes, and can even be used as an offensive advantage against melee. There are many situations in which LoS is used effectively. This article will be taking an in-depth look at this aspect of the game, as it can be easily overlooked, while also game breaking. Closing the Gap, Part 2

To understand which method of practice yields the best result, we have to understand the basics of how ‘execution’ works. Often times your execution skills will be called upon. While this game doesn’t require insane amount of accuracy or timing, it is still important to be able to land those spell interruptions and escape spells on demand. The only way to build up your execution skill is via practice.
Humans have a very useful function called muscle memory. After you repeated certain patterns of actions enough times and spent enough hours on them, your muscle will start remembering these actions for you. Once your muscle memory is working, instead of having to tell yourself to press certain button to interrupt a spell, you will just do it automatically upon seeing that spell being casted. This is the very same reason why when people switch their key bindings, it takes quite sometime to get used to them. Not because they have a difficult time pressing the new keys, it is more due to the fact they’re unable to discard their previous muscle memory for their old key bindings. Read More

Closing the Gap, Part 1

When asked, most average players can only tell you the surface of what they see after observing a match. They look for the obvious and only see things like class makeup, basic strategy execution. This is one of the main reasons why a lot of players can actually watch a world class team play, such as Pandemic or TFO, then walk away saying things like “They were lucky”, “They had easy competition”, “They didn’t do anything I couldn’t have done”, or the worst of them all “They just had better partners”. Hearing these amateur comments are quite disappointing. These ignorant comments only show how little most players understand the game in-depth. Instead of actually learning from these skilled players and taking advantage of this opportunity to improve themselves, they end up making excuses for why they weren’t the one that was in their places instead.
So what exactly separates top of the line arena players and the average PvPers? Read More
