Article: WTF is 2345: A Look at 5v5 Comps
March 1st, 2008 by Breaky · 23 Comments

— 2345 Lineup —

Class Comp

Disc Priest / Holy Paladin / Elemental Shaman / Ice Mage / MS Warrior

Strengths

- Great switch ability with intercept from the Warrior and instant MS, along with easy switching for the mage/shaman

- Two offensive purges on targets can “clean up” opposing players very easy, especially when a BoP or BoF appears

- Bloodlust will help either defensivly or offensivly, including a big burst or fast mana burns, or quick CC and fast heals to counter a burst

- Two big burst stoppers with Pain Suppresion and BoP

- A very typical lineup, so mirror matches will occur often, meaning more skill will make the difference…. and some RNG.

Weaknesses

- Has been around for so long, that many know how to counter it well or realise how to play against it… including several lineups designed just to beat it

- Not a whole lot of strong CC, only sheep is really spammable

- Warrior can get caught if pushed up and stuck in beserker often

Overall Summary

This of course has been the most long lasting lineup all through the three seasons, and thus has gotten the name “cookie-cutter” as well, because it has been so popular and works so well. It is a fairly easy composition to run as well, and does give you a good amount of switch options, with plenty of burst potential. Even if the Shaman has already used cooldowns, he can still put out plenty of damage, allowing for multiple burst attempts through out a fight. It of course has potential to still be a top competitor in any BG, but has died off as the dominat composition, that is for sure. Still very fun to play, and worth while if you can get the players for it

Article: Warlocks and 4 DPS
November 12th, 2007 by Gumbot · 33 Comments

I am Gumbot. I transferred to BG9 week 1 of season 2 to get away from my bad Battlegroup and onto the most revered one. I did this specifically to run a 4 DPS 5v5, uniting some of the best players from our previous Battlegroup. We were running Spriest/Mage/UA-Lock/Pally/Ele-Sham. Throughout Season 2, The Fallen Angels has maintained a top 5 slot varying from 1st to 5th and has always kept themselves as one of the highest 4 DPS teams in the world. Recently the The Fallen Angels has stopped queuing simply because most of the team got bored with WoW and now play DOTA instead (sigh… although I do admit DOTA takes just about as much micro as wow sometimes).

The strength of 4 DPS is locking down their Warrior, causing all players to play defensively… Read More

Article: 2v2 & 5v5: Viability of Paladins in Arena, Part 3
November 8th, 2007 by Szletica · 18 Comments

I know it’s been awhile since my last post, but I’m back on track again! Before I get started, let’s quickly recap the previous articles of this three part series. Paladins like any other class, despite popular belief, are easy to initially play but rather difficult to master. This class has a variety of tools and weapons it can utilize in the arena that no other can provide, such as Blessing of Freedom (immunity to movement impairment), Divine Shield (god-mode), powerful heals (Holy Light and Flash of Light), and Blessing of Protection (Immune to Physical Damage). With perks like those, it’s easy to see why Paladins are a widely represented class in the arena scene. Although Paladins do get the shaft in 2v2 arena for the most part, mainly because the Druid class dominates with its CC, HoTs, and survivability, they are viable when paired with certain classes such as a Warrior or Warlock (SL/SL). Because of these two classes survivability, the Paladin can pair perfectly with them in 2v2 and success for the most part follows.

So what about 5v5, how do Paladins fare? Read More

Article: 2v2 & 5v5: Viability of Paladins in Arena, Part 1
September 27th, 2007 by Szletica · 10 Comments

PaladinAlthough, many players may believe that the Paladin class is a powerhouse in terms of raw healing and efficiency (which, I completely agree upon), Arena certainly does put a spin on this — having both its positives and negatives. As a Paladin myself, I do recognize the potential of this class in Arena; but, at the same time, realize it’s not going to be the definitive, best healer in the game.

Other healer classes, such as priests and druids, are able to provide other forms of support (Cyclone, Manaburn, heals over time… etc), which Paladins, obviously, cannot. Does this mean that the Paladin class is at a disadvantage in Arena to these other healers? Not necessarily. Paladins are a very versatile class with skills and tricks, just as notable as other healers are. Read More
