News: WOTLK Spell dmg & Healing changed into 1 stat!
August 5th, 2008 by Protein ·

So far on all the gear, Spell dmg and Healing is converted into 1 stat called “Spellpower” looks like a good idea on paper, but don’t know how its going to play out in PvP/PvE. In PvP some classes will benefit from it more than others (IE. Dreamstate druids will be kinda OP since they will have a lot more +spell dmg than before and will be able to nuke better. ) Every hybrid class will like this a lot in the sense if they need to farm and they usually are holy, they can go shadow and not lose +dmg or +healing and be able to farm like if they have had +dmg gear on *pre wotlk*.

Here is a quote but can’t find the source atm.

“”Spellpower: All items and effects which grant bonuses to spell damage and spell healing are being consolidated into a single stat, Spellpower. This stat will appear with the same values found on items which grant “increased spell damage and healing” such as on typical Mage and Warlock itemization. For classes which do not heal, they should see no change in the character sheet other than new tooltip wording. Healing characters will see their bonus healing numbers on the character sheet decrease, however, all healing spells have been modified to receive more benefit from spellpower than they received from bonus healing, with a net effect of no change to the amount healed by their spells. Some talents have had to be rebalanced to accommodate this change, but the amount healed will remain roughly the same. In addition, some talents will provide only healing spell power.”"

Seems to me the difference will be marginal at best as the Spellpower reflects additional damage rather than the additional healing, as that will be governed by class specific mechanics.

However, what it definitly WILL do is cause alot of fuzz about who gets what item as healers and caster dps will be needing the same non tiered epics. But then again we can only assume that the need to disenchant perfectly fine items will disappear almost entirely.

    Hehe

This change is mostly semantic. Spellpower is supposed to affect healing spells more than damage, so effectively it’s no different than your typical “Increases healing by x and spell damage by x/3″ tooltip. It does imply, though, that they will consolidate caster gear further. It seems to me from the wrath forum blue posts that Blizzard realizes that you can differentiate classes and specs *too* much, and this, along with the buff consolidation they’re planning, is an attempt to lessen some of the differentiation.

does this mean we healere willno longer have to farm several sets for caster or healer, or did imisunderstand?

  5. Protein Says:

No Corps you didn’t read wrong

  6. Ziss Says:

Friend of my has decided to not get resto set(he’s moonkin already) because this change will combine the 2 sets anyways.

  7. Baleron Says:

Blizzard is already making adjustments to balance the change to Spellpower. Using dreamstate druids as an example: 3/3 Lunar Guidance - Dmg/healing increased +25% of INT. In the expansion the same 3 points give +12%.

  8. Ziss Says:

Hmm doesn’t that nerf the amount of spell damage by around 50% while healing is untouched?

  9. Andy Says:

Depends on the value of 1 spell damage compared to now I reckon.
