Wotlk Mage Abilites and talents
July 24th, 2008 by wishy ·
- Shatter Shield ( Trained )
Instantly shields you, absorbing 2000 Physical damage. Lasts 1 min. When the shield is destroyed, all enemies within 10 yards are frozen for 8 sec.
(1200 Mana, Instant, 30 sec CD)
I’m not sure this will make it out of beta the way it is . Most likely i see the CD going to 2 to 3 min. Seems over powered on a 30 second cd. Amazing ability for mages freezing every target in 10 yards and absorbing 2k damage.
- Deep Freeze ( Frost Talent )
Stuns the target for 5 sec. Only usable on Frozen targets.
(1 Rank, 1.5 sec, 30 sec Cooldown)
This is 51 point talent in the frost tree. Stunning the target gives mages yet another cc. I just dont see many going that far. I’m sure most will pick up improved counterspell, improved blink and presence of mind in the arcane tree.
- Improved Water Elemental ( frost talent )
Increases the duration of your Summon Water Elemental spell by 5/10/15 sec and increases the total health and mana of your water elemental by 10/20/30%.
Not sure how any mage can pass this up longer life equals more damage. Looks like 95 percent of all the mages will still be frost mages in wotlk. I just dont see anything in the other trees to make the switch worth it.

I have a few issues with your current post, and I’ll point those out here.
“Not sure how any mage can pass this up longer life equals more damage. Looks like 95 percent of all the mages will still be frost mages in wotlk. I just dont see anything in the other trees to make the switch worth it.”
And prior to that quote you also said, “This is 51 point talent in the frost tree. Stunning the target gives mages yet another cc. I just dont see many going that far. I’m sure most will pick up improved counterspell, improved blink and presence of mind in the arcane tree.”
I understand that a mage may be able to acquire the elemental talent and still spend in other trees, but you contradicted yourself by saying the line about the other trees, or making the switch.
You also deeply underrate Deep Freeze - do you understand the synergy it gives mages with melee by offering a stun-on-demand that allows for a lack of parry / dodge / and miss in player versus player? It’s not just another “cc” - it’s a stun, and stunning totally locks down a target while allowing it to be damaged - it’s not like a polymorph.
Furthermore, they may increase the cooldown on Shatter Shield, but you obviously aren’t taking into account the other changes and abilities given to other classes in World of Warcraft for Wrath of the Lich King.
You stated on your first post that you would discuss information / abilities regarding upcoming changes, et cetera, but you’re churning out half-thought out write-ups that don’t make sense.
No offense, but I’d like it better if you went more in-depth and pumped out some theory craft.
Thanks.

I think most mages will be 23/0/48 come wotlk. So i guess Technically most mages will be a hybrid spec. I still called it frost since most talents were in that tree. But i do see your saying 20/0/51 would be your spec pick. I’ll try to get a little more in depth on certain talents i feel are game changing in my up coming posts.
peace

Sounds good.
I probably came off a little more harsh than what I meant, but I think that with your future posts a lot more depth would be nice.
Show the players what they’re working with and the possibilities of the newest talents - just minor theory craft, is all.
You’ve got a lot of information to work with.

I doubt shatter shield would get nerfed. It’s 1200 mana (!!) for 2000 damage.. Doesn’t even Manashield have a better dmgabsorb:mana rate?
Furthermore, I find it strange you make comments that look a bit like mages will be imba. Because, they won’t. And you know it.
Sure, I’m biased since I’m a mage myself - but you can’t deny we’re getting the shittiest and most uninteresting new talents..

I’m sure it’s the nova after the shield that’s causing the hype.

Beeing playing a mage for some years now I dont think that the new talents are unintresting.
But Mages are intended to be the “Kings of AoE” according to Blizzard. But even so Blizzard are giving us more snares (Reduced speed by 70%) if we choose frost or even more insane burst if we go arcane/fire and 1 new aoe spell that dont looks to fancy for pvp or pve =(
The new nova is on the same DR as Frostnova and Frostbite = 1 more shitty thing thats eats up your time to execute a shatter combo..
