May 29th, 2008 by Ziss ·

I just got this in the email today:

Congratulations on your performance in the 2008 World of Warcraft Arena Tournament. You and the rest of your teammates have qualified for a seat in the 2008 CGS World of Warcraft Arena Championship. This tournament will culminate in a live event held in Los Angeles, California on July 19, 2008 where the two top teams from North America will face off against the two top European teams for a prize purse totaling $50,000 cash.

To qualify for the CGS World of Warcraft Arena Championship, you must be 18 years old and a legal resident of one of the following countries: United States of America, Canada, France, Germany, Spain or The United Kingdom.

The first part of the tournament will run online between June 9, 2008 and June 22, 2008. The rankings will freeze on the 22nd, and the top two qualifying teams from each region will be flown out to Los Angeles for the Finals on July 19, 2008. Proof of eligibility will be required to progress to the Finals, and teams unable to prove their eligibility will be disqualified.

I read somewhere (CGS site maybe…) that in total there are 1000 teams (500 American, 500 European). So I’d assume, the top 500 teams from WoW Tourney 1 2008 US/EU got an invite. I got the same email too and was wondering wtf it was.

    Go for it!

  3. Klabbelito Says:

kinda retarded not to invite swedes, since sweden is the best gamingcountry in the world

  4. Jimdigi Says:

If they’d invite from the wow tourney that would be pretty unfair. A lot of good players arent allowed to play the tournament because of their country’s laws. It’s annoying enough that Blizzard uses these restrictions, but if CGS is just gonna copy it, thats sad imo. How is someone from those countries supposed to make a name then?

    Good morning,

Thank you for registering for the CGS 2008 World of Warcraft Arena Tournament. We are very excited to host this event and look forward to covering the competition on www.thecgs.com. A couple of notes:

    · Tournament accounts will be distributed at the end of this week. Please keep an eye out for the email containing this information.
    · Are all of your team-mates registered? It might be a good idea to double check and make sure everybody is set.
    · We are adding Sweden and Belgium to the eligible country list for the Europe competition.

Please send me a note if you’ve got any questions. Best of luck to all.

    Cheers,
    Stuart

I really wonder what purpose this tournament has?
    - I mean, to not invite swedes is both stupid and odd since I dont see a reason for a restriction against swedish players and since there are alot of “top-teams” that are from sweden.

do anyone know why they dont include swedes? is it because they will tear up the tournament with their immense skill and PewPew american teams? ;)

  7. Protein Says:

@Sonny, could be something with the countries laws.
