News: News on season 4 personal rating
April 22nd, 2008 by Yuukie ·

New rules on season 4 gear was released today, wishuluck from our forums summed it up well. You can join the discussion here!

New Rating Rules:

1) If a character’s personal rating is more than 150 points below the team rating, they will earn points based on their personal rating instead of the team rating. This means that a player cannot join a highly rated team and begin earning points based purely on the pre-established rating of the team before they joined it. They’ll need to compete, improve, and gain a personal rating worthy of the points they would receive.

2) If the average personal rating of the players queuing for a game is more than 150 points below the team’s rating, the team will be queued against an opponent matching or similar to the average personal rating. This means that players cannot join a highly rated team and immediately face highly rated opponents, easily and quickly bringing their personal rating up. Instead they’ll need to again compete, improve, and earn their rating.

Season 4 Arena Gear:

Shoulders: 2200
Weapon: 2050
Head: 1700
Chest: 1600
Legs: 1550
Gloves: None
Offhand: None

Season 4 Honor Gear:

Boots: 1700
Ring: 1650
Bracers: 1575
Belt: None
Neck: None
Trinket: None

Old Season 3 Arena Gear:

Shoulders: 1950
Weapons: 1800

Reason for the Changes:
The changes to the rating requirements for these items reflect the nature of the items, their power, and the relative difficulty that should be had when attempting to obtain them. These items are comparable to those found in the newest 25 person raid zone, Sunwell Plateau, and should therefore also feel very challenging to obtain.

wall of text crits you for 15,000.

    you die.

  2. warlfg Says:

I find these changes interesting, but kind of stupid. I don’t like the personal rating thing with the points, but I obviously see the reasoning behind it. It can do as much harm as good, though, I’m afraid.

I think they should have to earn their rating, but this makes it a lot harder to gear out a new character. Well, I guess we will just have to wait to see what this brings. :)

  3. Inkind Says:

I guess this has been discussed to death already. And still, very few people even believe me at first when I tell them.

  4. Dan Says:

This will make it difficult for people that play on multiple teams. If they’re going to do this shouldn’t they allow players to return to teams with their previous PR rather than start from 1500 every time you switch teams?

  5. Mnemonic Says:

“This will make it difficult for people that play on multiple teams.”

thats the point.. make it difficult for team farmers to do their stupid jobs. Blizz is doing what they can to prevent team farming without making durastic changes to the current arena system.

  6. purpleThreat Says:

well this doesnt affect arena farmers in any way because once they get all of their gear what do they care about loosing a personal rating. Just like now when u start at 1500 n get rolled 6 times in a roll by a full s4 team on ur newly lvl 70 toons. So in reality they are just making it harder for a new 70 or a person who is still learning their class to obtain weapons or shoulders. QQ
