Blue Roundup: New Water; PvP Rewards and More
February 14th, 2008 by Magog ·
Bunch of blue popped up this week — pertaining to PTR and upcoming changes — with some PvP implications. Here’s a quick roundup:
As discussed in our forums, the drinking mechanic has been changed on the PTR. Hortus states that this is intended and not a bug:
“This is an intentional change to how drinking works. The amount of mana regenerated now ramps up, so you will see little or no mana regen the first few seconds and then it will increase as the duration continues.” -Hortus
Bornakk announced that there will be a fix for arena queues that should help with queue times across the board. Needless to say this change will be greatly welcomed.
“You should see it updated in the patch notes soon, but there is an improvement set for patch 2.4 which will result in lower queue times across the board for arena matches.” -Bornakk
And with the back and forth saga of class changes in 2.4, Nethaera now says that there will be more class changes introduced for Patch 2.4:
“We do have class changes planned for patch 2.4.0. Essentially, with the changes to classes in 2.3.2, we wanted to give the changes some time to see how they played out and we didn’t want to put more changes into 2.4.0 immediately with all the other additions and changes we’ve made. We will be adding more though as we go along.” -Nethaera
New PvP Honor Rewards
Along with the new PvP badge pieces, three new honor pieces will also be introduced in 2.4… and yes, yet more — Blizzard’s stat-of-the-month — haste:

I’m going to be very happy if the shorter queue fix actually pans out.

Why all spell haste and nothing for melee?
February 14th, 2008 at 1:50 pm
with spell haste lowering the GCD, would be nice to see the same done to melee haste.
February 14th, 2008 at 2:28 pm
Spell and Melee haste aren’t the same thing. They are supposed to be equal but they aren’t, obviously, hence the change. Think about how haste affects melee white damage, then take a look at spell haste.
February 14th, 2008 at 3:47 pm
But white damage is only a portion (less in real PvP situations) of the melee’s DPS comparing to almost 100% for casters.

Uhm, white is a huge portion of warrior damage… and caster damage is all casted which makes sense to have it affect their GCD. Melee doesn’t have to worry about spell push back or standing in one spot to do damage. Instants should not be able to be spammed faster and rogues already have a 1 sec GCD.

Saying that regular haste should affect melee gcd is pretty silly. I could care less if I can do 2 mutilates in 1 second or .75 seconds.
It just sounds like “eeeeh, they got THIS so we should get THIS!” talk. If spell haste made dots tick faster then we might have something to yelp about, but for now it’s pretty much just a buff to mages. I’m not too scared of locks stacking haste for super fast manadrains! oooooh!

Longer to gain mana.. ugh that is going to suck for any mana user in PVE who’s down 1/2-2/3 an sit to drink to full. Now the whole damn party is going to have to wait forever for you to mana up. bleh.
