2.4: Time to PvE to PvP Again? PvP Starter Set
February 10th, 2008 by Magog ·
Update: I was able to secure a nice clip as well as commentary notes from Pronne of SK Gaming, showcasing a fight between Rogue(Shs) Druid(Pronne) vs Warrior Druid. To check it out, simply click on the it under Featured Media or here. -Ziss
Well, it’s that time again. A new PvE content patch is coming out and all the “newer, better and shinier” gear is being mined and posted. I won’t lie, some of that stuff looks damn spiffy — but when you see that most of it takes PvE rep, tokens and badges, it all gets bittersweet.
We all know that Blizzard has always been PvE first and that PvP gear and loot is usually half-a-step behind PvE. So is it time to get ready to get back to raiding and chant that “PvE to PvP” mantra all the while to keep us feeling hardcore? or suck it up til Season 4?

Now with haste!
New PvP Starter Set
For those who just getting into arena or who’ve recently rerolled, you may have noticed that the barrier of entry for a decent PvP/resilience set is pretty high. In addition to the honor and badge grind, it still takes several weeks in the arena to get a decent number of season pieces. So it looks like Blizzard is introducing a “PvP Starter Set” that people with a decent amount of Outland Factions reputation can pick up right away.
While some may complain that this is another PvE grind to get PvP gear, the honored/revered requirements don’t seem all that bad. The pieces are all rare (blue) quality and aren’t on par with the gladiator pieces, but it’s a good start. But yeah, a new patch with leet PvE vs. newbie PvP loot hardly seems fair.
Here are the set bonuses, stats and reputation requirements to the new PvP set (pictures from mmo-champion):

it might not apply to many of the readers here who are actually end-game pvpers with great ratings and skill, but the majority of pvp gear gotten requires little time / effort / skill and is amazing when compared with pve equivalents (S3 vs many pieces of t6 for instance).
The new patch has some hectic new gear though, i believe theirs a trinket with 56~ passive stam and a proc: when at 30% or below increases dodge rating by ~360, which im definitely going to pick up for those warrior teams.

pve is ridiculously easy, don’t kid yourself. And yes I was a raider pre-BC.

PVE might be ridiculously easy for some people, but for those of us who can only play on weekends, requiring PVE to get items sets a dangerous precedent. It’s a return to the previous mantra, raid raid raid to get gear so you can PVP. Once again it will unbalance PVP from skill to time played.
And btw increasing dodge against a warrior is not necessarily a good thing. Remember overpower…

Id much rather prefer to have my mortal strike land than overpower hitting…

This is nice to have entry-level PvP items that don’t require insane battleground grinding. Casual instance players will have a good opportunity to get gear sufficient to enjoy arena matches sooner.

Nice site here dude, thanks. Can’t wait for the latest enlargement, Cataclysm. Knowing Blizzard though I would not be surprised if it was released in 2011!
