News: Tigole talks World PvP in WotLK, Cyclone(EU) Invitational v2, and Patc
February 6th, 2008 by Magog ·

In an interview with CVG, Tigole gives us a brief snippet on what’s to come on the World PvP front in the upcoming WotLK expansion:

Another group of WOW players due to feel some love are those who like to knock bells out of each other - the PvP fraternity. “The major PvP addition will be Lake Wintergrasp, an entire non-instanced zone in Northrend dedicated to world PvP,” continues Jeff while miming an axe motion.

“We’re taking what we’ve learned from world PvP objectives in the Old World and Outland and building on that to provide some truly epic warfare. Players will be able to use siege weapons to assault the other faction’s buildings, and earn faction-wide buffs by completing objectives and gaining dominance in the zone.” And destructible buildings at that.

Sounds like they are continuing with the “everything-but-the-kitchen-sink” plan for WoW and PvP — a little of everything. This time it looks like they are adding a touch of DAoC RvR into the mix.

Also, will they be able to bring back excitement in same-server PvP again? — I must admit, the mindless TM/Southshore back-and-forth was one of my guilty pleasures — or have the Battlegroups destroyed server faction identity?

Cyclone(EU) 5v5 Tournament v2
Hot on the heels of the first tournament, the Cyclone BG is ready to rumble again with their next tournament. Two major changes from the first tournament are that (1) teams will be locked into classes, setups and specs once the brackets go live, and (2) the field has been expanded to 16 teams (double elimination).

Check out Vilu’s blog on Gameriot for descriptions of the teams and a great writeup on the 5-man meta games that you will see in the tournament.

Here is a snippet:

“Other thing worth noting is that due to the influx of transferee’s to the BG, the online ladder and therefor the tournament are more heterogeneous than ever before.

Few statistics:
Out of 16 teams:
5 runs a droodrog
3 runs a 2346
3 runs a drainburn
2 runs a warrior/hunter triheal
1 team is 2345
1 team is a mage/lock
1 team is an war/ench sham tri heal

- Every single team has a disc priest.
- Every single team has a a healing debuff; in 69% of the cases it’s provided by a warrior, in 31% by a rogue.
- Paladin is still the most favored main healer, though druids are catching on, 11 vs 8.
- Each class has at least 31% representation in the tournament, the ones with lowest representation are hunters, shamans & rogues with 5 each.”

Patch 2.4…
As for the latest on 2.4, we all know the deal: another episode of “Castrated CM’s, Patches and You”.

“I can’t give an eta because it’s all dependent on where internal testing and QA feel the patch is. There is plenty of content in the patch and we’d like to make sure we’re making a patch that is as stable as possible for accurate testing.

I can’t ballpark it either just in case we don’t make the ballpark. While there are many people that don’t mind when we miss a mark, there are others that will try to hold us to it. We would rather err on the side of caution and put it up when it’s ready and then let everyone know it’s available right then and there.

It is well on it’s way, however, and I’m looking forward to experiencing the Sunwell Isle” -Nethaera
