Avada Kedavra Wins Cyclone(EU) Invitational
February 4th, 2008 by Magog ·
Well, there was another ’sporting’ event that wrapped up over the weekend… the Cyclone(EU) 5v5 Invitational Tournament. Avada Kedavra came out on top with a lineup that I’m sure will please all our rogue players here: Rogue, Mage, Warlock, Priest, Druid.
The finals was actually a mirror match featuring the exact same comps with one notable difference: Rogue specs — shadowstep vs. mutilate (and combat). It’s a discussion that I’m sure will spawn a million blogs. Unfortunately, there are no videos of the finals… ironic that this happened on the weekend of one of the most watched sports events.
Here is the tournament wrap up page with available videos. Match details of the finals here.
Cyclone Tour #1 Final Standings
1. Avada Kedavra - Rogue, Mage, Warlock, Priest, Druid
2. ShowTimed - Rogue, Mage, Warlock, Priest, Druid
3. Nihilum - Warrior, Hunter, Warlock, Priest, Paladin
4. Knockout - Warrior, Hunter, Warlock, Priest, Paladin

Nice writeup, but it’s not clear which rogue was SS and which was Mu - i’d really like to know. Also, i think you’ll find the world cup is more watched than the superbowl

I think Avada Kedavra ran ShS Rogue while ShowTimed ran Mutilate.

Correct. AK’s Rogue Adrasil was Shadowstep and Showtimed’s Zom/Xom was Mutilate… and may have switched to deep combat midway. The rogue specs are on the bottom of SK’s wrap up page.
Also I added “one of” to the most watched for you ‘other’ footballers.

“ironic that this happened on the weekend of one of the most watched sports events.”
It’s not that ironic.. I don’t think Euro’s care about football. At least not the pigskin kind.
Magog: Hah, nah it was a snark about a finals that *nobody* could watch… :p

no one cares about “super” bowl outside north america. I think you will find that Euros do care a lot about football, we don’t care about American football.
Magog: Again, it wasn’t a which side of the pond is greener argument. It was a jab on WoW’s aim to be a successful ‘esport’ — didn’t mean to come across as ‘omg why are you Euros playing WoW when the Superbowl is on???’.
I was merely using the Superbowl as an example as a successful ’sport’ where the finals here in the US is almost a national holiday - everyone in the US tunes in. Hell, when I went to rent a car the morning after, total strangers in line were talking about it. For the finals of a tournament not to be frapsed so ppl can ‘tune in’ is a misstep IMO.
