Blue on Hemo; Another (Invite Only) Tournament
December 6th, 2007 by Magog ·
Questioned about the latest Hemorrhage tweak, Nethaera sheds some light on the direction they are taking with the talent:
“The intent at this point with this change is to remove some of the front load damage in favor of more group utility. This was the intention of the original Hemorrhage buff and we’re working toward getting it back where we feel it’s going to be the most balanced and beneficial both. That said, we are always on the lookout for constructive feedback on these changes.” -Nethaera
Another WoW Tournament…
Over on Gameriot, the Mob Godfather fills us in on a special 3v3 competition within CGS sponsored by Dell and Blizzard. Prize here is a cool $10k and three of the soon-to-be-released Warcraft Edition laptops from Dell.
Gripe from those I’ve talked to about the tournament? Similar to the recently completed Dreamhack Tourney, only four select teams were invited to compete. Familiar names like (Dell sponsored) Pandemic and MoB give this contest an incestuous, “keeping it in the family” feel. Hey those laptops are swank, and I’m sure there are plenty of people outside of the 4 high-profile sponsored teams that would like a shot at them. Ah well, here’s hoping that future events like Gameriot’s Tourney will allow us to see some fresh faces in the mix.
Here’s the press release:
Wednesday December 5, 1:00 pm ET | Press Release - Dell Inc.

ROUND ROCK, Texas–(BUSINESS WIRE)–Are you prepared? Dell (NASDAQ:DELL - News) and Blizzard Entertainment® have teamed to sponsor a World of Warcraft® tournament as part of the Championship Gaming Series™ (CGS) league’s inaugural World Final. CGS will host the tournament-within-a-tournament event on Saturday, Dec. 8 at Sony Studios in Los Angeles.
Blizzard Entertainment is inviting the top four World of Warcraft 3v3 teams in the U.S. to compete professionally for a grand cash prize of $10,000. Each member of the winning team will also receive the recently announced XPS M1730 World of Warcraft Edition notebook.
Three vs. three player teams who are up for the challenge will play round-robin style against each other, using Dell XPS gaming systems loaded with Windows Vista® Ultimate, to prove themselves the game’s best Arena competitors. The tournament will begin at 2 p.m. PST with the final match starting at 8 p.m. PST.
Also on December 8, CGS will hold its World of Warcraft 2v2 Championship. The event will feature premier American and European pairs battling for a top prize of $30,000.
Adding to the excitement, both tournaments will be webcast at www.thecgs.com and featured on the Dell Lounge at www.delllounge.com.

Kinda lame how they are only inviting 4 teams, would be really cool to see a nice elimination style tourney with like 16 teams.
Btw those laptops are $4500 each, which is an outrageous price in my opinion.

I just wish it were easier to watch these matches. Are there videos from the Intel tournament online? Is it possible/challenging to record streaming videos?

This is why competitive wow is so bloody stagnant, would you ever see competitive css and wc3 surviving with this few select players/teams :V

Ridiculous, do these companies not anticipate that maybe, JUST MAYBE—teams are getting better, and there are other good players out there?

Be glad that WoW pvp is given any sort of sponsorship and prize money, considering its relatively weak pvp design and support; compared to other ‘professional’ games. You want big pro tourneys and coverage, start brushing up on your Starcraft skills imo. =)
