December 26th, 2007 by Magog ·

Kicking off 2008, Blizzard is attempting to start off the New Year right by getting in touch with the community with it’s first ever BlizzCast. Airing sometime during the first week of January, the video podcast will be focused on Starcraft 2 and WotLK news and feature a lot of fan/developer interaction.
This first episode will include an interview with Tigole with more details about Sunwell and 2.4. CM’s Nethaera and Karune (SC2 CM) will also be present doing their CM/liaison thing between the devs and the fans. They also have plans for fan-submitted questions to appear on the show, so let’s make sure to get our PvP voices heard (when that option is available).

As things slow down for the holidays, the a Swedish site — acaciaizm.com – gives us a little heads up on what will be coming down the pipe for 2.4 on the PvP front in their interview with Jeff Kaplan (Tigole):
On the question of “other information regarding 2.4″
Kaplan is secretive as always, though hints that there will be balancing actions taken in regards to PvP for certain classes. Arenas are also hinted as an area Blizzard “have large plans for” and they will be aiming to bring it closer to e-sport acceptance.

Armory Up-to-date, Last Night’s Beatdown Revealed

After a few weeks of struggle from Blizzard, Armory is finally functional again with all the Season 2 teams removed. I was of course interested in checking out the team that took our points last night, Boolak from Ner’zhul.
The advantage of the Twin Glaives was much bigger than I have predicted. Aside from having access to all the best DPS gear in the off slots and a pair of much higher DPS weapon, he was able to convert the Arena points normally spent on weapons (like normal pvpers do) and invested them in to armor instead. With 4 out of 5 Season 3 Armor fully socketed with BT gems, unbuffed - he’s clocking at 11000+ HP, 405 Resilience, 1940 AP, 27.85 Crit (without Malice), 93 Hit Rating and 846 (300 from trinket proc) Armor Penetration + Executioner (I seriously felt I was NOT prepared after seeing all this lol). His spec? 0/20/41. Where Shadow Step lacked in sustained DPS, he made up via going 20 in Combat, where Shadow Step lacked burst, he made up with the best PvE gear + best PvP gear. When he unloads from 110 Energy to 0, my life goes down almost as fast. With all the mobility of AR/Prep (I refuse to call it HARP), plus the addition of Shadow Step, mobility doesn’t get any better (I suppose if he’s gnome then…).
Quickly checking his partner for reasons why he wasn’t dying to our rushdown, I was again amused by the 1977 Healing and 752 Spell Damage. He is specced 35/0/26 (lack of Feral Charge ‘might’ hurt him), most likely to nuke down Warrior Druid teams. With 215 MP5, who needs to spec Resto? With the added survivability of Battlemaster’s Perseverance, it was very hard to take him down aside from game 1, where we caught them off guard.
Perhaps it was too early to dismiss the viability of Shadow Step. Although the thought of 0/20/41 has came across my mind before, I didn’t believe it could be a viable choice until now. Hopefully we won’t be limited to playing with Druids as Shadow Step (although I wouldn’t mind Rogue/Warlock/Hybrid-Druid in 3s), I will be doing some PTR testing to find out.

Shadow Step & Rogue’s Future in Arena

Ziss: Just got my ass handed to me by Warglaives ShS Rogue 4 games straight. He was able to drop me to 47% with 1 CS and with that type of damage, I’m sure the selected few will excel with ShS next patch. (Dec. 20)![]()
As many of you already know, the recently favored AR/Prep spec for Rogue is being nerfed by removing Adrenalin Rush from Preparation. Many Rogues are left wondering where to go from here, and some looked towards the newly buffed Shadow Step as the way out.
To help us answer this question, let’s take a brief look at Arena history. At the start of Season 1, the focus of Arena was almost all 5v5. With Blizzard backing the bracket via tournament and international competition, there was no reason to look else where. Everyone started playing 5v5 and used it as a rule-of-thumb in determining skill. You would often hear players that lost in 2v2 or 3v3 say “Play in a bracket that matters!” to the opposing team.
This period was the darkest for Rogues. Every team was running Warriors as melee DPS using crafted tier 1 or 2 Blacksmith weapons and gathered 4 pieces Arena armor in few weeks. Rogues on the other hand was stuck using the precious points on weapons while wearing blues socketed with full 12 Stam gems just to survive the barrage of Warriors in 5v5, often with another Warrior on their team.
Noktyn and Nitrana from Team Pandemic summed it up well during Season 1: Read More
