Article: Warlocks and 4 DPS
November 12th, 2007 by Gumbot · 33 Comments

I am Gumbot. I transferred to BG9 week 1 of season 2 to get away from my bad Battlegroup and onto the most revered one. I did this specifically to run a 4 DPS 5v5, uniting some of the best players from our previous Battlegroup. We were running Spriest/Mage/UA-Lock/Pally/Ele-Sham. Throughout Season 2, The Fallen Angels has maintained a top 5 slot varying from 1st to 5th and has always kept themselves as one of the highest 4 DPS teams in the world. Recently the The Fallen Angels has stopped queuing simply because most of the team got bored with WoW and now play DOTA instead (sigh… although I do admit DOTA takes just about as much micro as wow sometimes).

The strength of 4 DPS is locking down their Warrior, causing all players to play defensively… Read More

News: Patch 2.3 Tomorrow; Last Minute Shaman Changes
November 12th, 2007 by Magog · 5 Comments

Just a quick reminder, patch 2.3 goes live tomorrow. It’s a big patch, for both PvP and PvE. MMO and WoR have excellent summaries for all the changes here and here. The final PTR patch notes are here — keep in mind there maybe some changes in the notes for live. Arena Season 3 is next week, which means you have one week to try out new specs and get your new gear ready.

Elemental Shaman Spell Coefficient Tweaked
elemental shaman 2.3 testingIn a change that made it just before the bell, Eyonix posted end-of-day Friday that shaman will be getting a small adjustment to their damage coefficient for their Lightning spells. After weeks of players theorycrafting, testing and even (gasp!) starting in some good ol’ drama, Blizzard finally admits that their DPS buff in 2.3 really was a nerf.

Article: Patch 2.3: A Spot for the Underdogs? Part 2

Paladin (Retribution)

Holy, Holy, Holy. If you play a Paladin, you know the criticism you go through from others on telling you to be Holy or get out. Well, although it may be annoying and not right for someone else to tell you how to have fun with the game, there is truth to why a Paladin almost has to play Holy to be effective at all in Arena. There are several reasons, most of them obvious, but key factors consist that they are melee without an MS debuff and the Arena gear currently for Ret Paladins does not have any Resilience on them. With that said, there are upcoming buffs in the 2.3 patch that may give Retribution Paladins a shining hope come Arena PvP. The first big change deals with Seals activated from the Paladin. News: Blizzard on Warlocks and 2v2: Deal With It
November 10th, 2007 by Magog · 12 Comments

cgs warlocks 2v2We’ve all known for awhile that the smaller team brackets favor certain compositions and classes… and now, with almost 2 seasons under it’s belt, Blizzard is no longer being coy:

I’m not saying it’s right that warlocks should be so powerful as a solo class simply because the balance is aimed somewhere else, but that’s the way it is and it has been said that little to no balancing will be done for 1vs1 or 2vs2 scenarios. It was even announced recently that there was almost not going to be a 2vs2 arena due to balance concerns. -Tharfor(EU)

Couple that with the blurb earlier this week from Kalgan saying that they were considering scrapping 2v2 in favor of 4v4 during TBC beta, it almost seems like Blizzard never intended for 2v2 to be a serious arena bracket. If that is indeed the case, isn’t it ironic (and amusing) that 2v2 is the only bracket that Blizzard currently backs competitively?
