WoW at Dreamhack After All
November 23rd, 2007 by Magog ·

Good news on the eSports front for WoW: with the help of Blizzard, ESL, Intel, and Dell, World of Warcraft will be featured at the Intel Extreme Global Masters Challenge at Dreamhack next week (November 29). With a total purse of $75,000 USD, this is a definite show of support for the WoW pro-gaming community by some major players.
The field will consist of eight teams (including many of the top-ranked teams from the defunct WSVG circuit). Pandemic (US), MoB*TurtleForce (US), MoB*TurtleBeach (US), Insurrection (US), SK Gaming (EU) and MyM (EU) have already been confirmed. As with WSVG, this is a 3v3 tournament, but with updated rules:
• 3 players per team (players may play multiple classes)
• Blizzard (default) UI.
• WSVG gear plus the season 2 gear
• 8 team double elimination bracket. (winner/loser bracket)
The select footage will be shown via webcast at http://www.delllounge.com/
From the wow-europe boards:
Blizzard will be attending Dreamhack Winter 2007, in Jönköping, Sweden, one of the world’s largest computer festivals. Dreamhack runs from November 29th to December 2nd.

My first first, and what a way to start and end this terrible trend for myself.
I’m psyched as f*ck to see that Blizzard is still trying to push for WoW to become a competitive eSport. Hopefully someone will take the initiative to run with this whole thing and bring something similar to WSVG (with better management) back to the forefront. Hopefully, this is a harbinger of things to come.

any rogues on any of those teams?
Magog: Not sure the exact lineups that will be entered since there is only a 3 player limitation, but I’m sure Nitrana will likely want to put his perfect tournament play record on the line. One of Pandemics regular lineups is Nitrana(Rogue)/Kintt(HPriest)/Ecilam(Mage).

Turtleforce will bring Zecks for sure, he’s their team captain.

Can any other teams qualify?

They chose the most successful teams from the prior tournaments.

Will they have any Live stream up?

Four of those teams turned down the invitation for various reasons. SK-Gaming and mYm.WoW will participate instead of two of those. Dunno about the two other spots.

Being forced to use Default Blizzard UI is really stupid. Many of these teams are going to have to practice with just blizzard UI prior to this tournament. I don’t agree at all with that decision.

I think that is a great decision, it will even the playing field and allow the true pro’s to surface. Shouldn’t have to rely on an addon to win.

“Shouldn’t have to rely on an addon to win.”
Amen.

Pro means that “I dont use any addons!” ??
Btw, anyone knows if we can see the matches live or something?

Hamchook just got signed by MOB to appear at Dreamhack. Second Hunter, behind Lucilius if I’m not mistaken, to be signed to a contract. Good sh*t, son.

That had slipped my mind, as it was a bit further back, and I’m thinking more current/recent. My mistake.
