Article: Druid tips of the day from Hafu
November 30th, 2007 by Ziss · 18 Comments

The following is a compilation of useful Druid tips on our Forums, brought to you by Hafu.

Please note that these are strategies that I use - keep in mind that my gear and my partner’s gear is optimal.

Warlock & Paladin: Honestly, I haven’t faced this combo since the patch, but before we only had trouble if they used a Voidwalker. (If they use a Felhunter, kill it. If that proves difficult, sunder the pet twice and then kill it ;p) This is a mana fight more than anything. Do what you can to drink as much as you can by having your Warrior slow the pet. Usually when I try to interrupt heals, I make sure I’m above 70% mana. Read More

News: 2.3.2 PTR Patch Notes; Dreamhack Finals
November 30th, 2007 by Magog · 6 Comments

A late post by blue on the WoW Europe forums gives us a glimpse of some upcoming changes for the next iteration on Patch 2.3.2 on the PTR. Notable PvP changes? More adjustments to the rogue subtlety tree. As many suspected would happen, the Hemo damage got reduced — it’s back down to 110% (from 125%). They also tacked on a combo point to Shadowstep. Resto Shamans also got hit with a 30 sec cooldown on Earth Shield. (Read More for the rest of the patch notes posted)

Dreamhack Finals
The stage is set: after getting knocked down into the losers bracket for the first time, Pandemic had to fight it’s way through 3 lower bracket matches to get back into the finals and a shot at the Dreamhack title. Their opponent? Old nemesis Xecks and MoB TurtleForce. Whatever happened to Hamchook and MoB TurtlePower? Both Mob TF and Pandemic ran rogue/rogue/druid to counter…

Grand finals should be thrilling — all that’s missing is information on when to watch it. Hey you players in the WoW-as-an-eSport movement, how about giving the fans an easier time to actually follow the action.

Again, you can view the bracket and results here:

*** UPDATE: Finals will take place 3PM CET (9AM EST/6AM PST) Saturday. Read More

News: Dreamhack Day 1 Concludes, Pandemic Takes a Tumble
November 29th, 2007 by Magog · 5 Comments

Day 1 of Dreamhack has concluded and the biggest surprise so far is Pandemic getting knocked down to the losers bracket for the first time ever in competition play. After quickly going down 0-2, the unconventional MoB TurtleForce lineup of hunter (Hamchook), warlock (Zizek), and holy priest (Xanderx) made some adjustments and fought back to beat Pandemic’s RMP team (Nitrana, Ecilam, Kintt), 3-2 in a thrilling series.

Although sometimes hard to follow and some of longer matches got quite repetitive with the resetting and drinking, the coverage of all the matches was quite enjoyable. A highlight is Nitrana’s series of warlock QQs while he was in the booth (’that warlock did 35k healing’). Hopefully some recordings of the matches will turn up.

As expected the North American teams dominated, winning all of their matches over their European opponents. Here are the standings after Day 1:

Tune in to day 2 to see if Pandemic can fight their way through the lower bracket to make it back into the finals.

News: Season 2* Ends with an Asterisk; Dreamhack Lineup Set
November 29th, 2007 by Magog · 3 Comments

Season 3 started this week and while everyone is grinding personal rating in order to use the S3 weapons and shoulders, the water cooler talk around the arenas is about the rampant win-trading that took place on the final days of Season 2. After a few heated threads like this and this, Blizzard finally decided to respond — initially, after acknowledging the problem, Blizzard chose to ignore it, but then recanted:

We’ve been in contact with our support teams in regards to this, and action being taken. We will and have been reading and investigating reports and taking action where we can verify this is occurring. Please keep in mind that while we will be investigating all reports, there will be cases where the investigation can’t be considered conclusive and action may not be taken. That’s just a standard disclaimer of course; we hope to be able to get all of them. As always, details of our investigations won’t be made public.

This is of course contrary to other posts I’ve made, and I do apologize for my confusion and any problems I’ve caused those of you concerned with the issue. -Drysc

Some ‘guilty’ teams have been banned and stripped of their ratings and some teams did not. As always, Blizzard is tight-lipped on it’s policing. Regardless, a black cloud has been cast and hopefully Blizzard will have measures to prevent this from happening in Season 3. Read More

November 23rd, 2007 by Magog · 20 Comments

dreamhack 2007

Good news on the eSports front for WoW: with the help of Blizzard, ESL, Intel, and Dell, World of Warcraft will be featured at the Intel Extreme Global Masters Challenge at Dreamhack next week (November 29). With a total purse of $75,000 USD, this is a definite show of support for the WoW pro-gaming community by some major players.

The field will consist of eight teams (including many of the top-ranked teams from the defunct WSVG circuit). Pandemic (US), MoB*TurtleForce (US), MoB*TurtleBeach (US), Insurrection (US), SK Gaming (EU) and MyM (EU) have already been confirmed. As with WSVG, this is a 3v3 tournament, but with updated rules:

• 3 players per team (players may play multiple classes)
• Blizzard (default) UI.
• WSVG gear plus the season 2 gear
• 8 team double elimination bracket. (winner/loser bracket)

The select footage will be shown via webcast at http://www.delllounge.com/
