News: Trick or Treat: Focused Will
October 31st, 2007 by Magog ·

After a revamp and a small tweak, Eyonix delivers the latest version of the new priest talent, Focused Will, on this Halloween morning:

eyonix halloweenFeedback was read, gathered and the designers are fully aware of all that you’ve provided. As a result, we’re making an adjustment to the talent so instead of seeing this morning’s version of focused will in the next PTR push, you’ll see:

“After taking a critical hit you gain the Focused Will effect, reducing all damage taken by 1/3/5% and increasing healing effects on you by 4/7/10% for 6 seconds. Stacks up to 3 times.” -Eyonix

As suspected, the talent was reworked because of the critical damage reduction cap (25%) that most priests can obtain through resilience. Now, the buff from the Focused Will talent will reduce all damage capping out at 15% fully talented and with a full stack.

The change from the initial offering announced yesterday is the reduction in the stack from 5 to 3 — a welcome change due to concerns of the probability of achieving 5 stacks with the buff only lasting 6 seconds. The percentages from the ranks were adjusted up to maintain the 15% damage reduction and 30% healing taken increase.

More Discipline to come (WotLK)
Those who attended this year’s Blizzcon may recall the panel promising changes in the discipline tree. If you’re concerned that this addition of Focused Will is all that Blizzard has in store, Eyonix has this to say:

It’s by no means an announcement.

Yesterday I took an extensive review of what we have in store for discipline (though it will see many changes between now and release) in Wrath of the Lich King. For quite some time I’ve been providing the designers with feedback from the community, as well as my own thoughts and ideas. Though it may not always be apparent every member of our team works very hard communicating all aspects of player feedback.

With that being said, the current iteration of the tree literally blew my mind. I was in the class designers office in under a minute discussing the changes like I was a nine year old child who was given a sneak peak of an entire set of unreleased Garbage Pail Kids cards. I can’t say much but I will say this:

The tree will stand on its own two feet.
It will be viable in PvE.
You will notice impact from player feedback -Eyonix

Natural Perfection Too
The resto druid talent, Natural Perfection, also received similar changes:

We’ve read through a great deal of feedback and are making another adjustment to the natural perfection talent which you’ll see in the next PTR data push.

“Now also grants the Natural Perfection effect after being critically hit, reducing all damage taken by 1/3/5% for 6 seconds. Stacks up to 3 times.” -Eyonix

A strong change that alleviates the overlap between the old talent (melee and ranged critical strikes against you cause 4/7/10% less damage) and resilience. Arguably the most durable PvP healer already, the resto druid will be even a little tougher to bring down.

Speaking of resto druids, for those Hafu fans, check out her 2v3 video. It’s quite entertaining (sorry, no delicious commentary in this one).

I found Hafu’s commentary to be very much sub par, especially compared to the high quality Rogue/Shaman analysis givenin other videos. Maybe you could work with her on what you expect from a commentator on this site.

I dont know, I enjoyed that 2v3 video. She’s really good with line of sight kiting and feral charging healers tactically to either break a heal or get away from melee. My only note was that it seems she’s somewhat reluctant to cyclone warriors or entangling roots them, especially when they’re out of LoS of their heales. Any reason?

    zure must be a woman

Hafu’s 2v3 video is amusing. Really shows what a druid with basic understanding of form shifting and movement can do. She’s obviously not exceptional, as the above poster mentioned she makes exceptionally poor use of cyclone/entangling roots, which are a druid’s best friend. Good time to be a resto druid with good gear, that’s for sure.

Magog: I’m sure there are certain parts in the video where she could have done better, but I think it was mostly for fun. I do disagree, however, on the “not exceptional” label. Getting teams in 2s and 3s to 2500 in a week on BG9 tells me otherwise ;).

A bit caustic with my previous response, i was pretty tired=p I rewatched the video after some sleep and i withdraw my previous statement. She’s a very good druid, but i DO think she could abuse cyclone/roots a lil more=)
