Afternoon Arena S2/S3 News
October 29th, 2007 by Magog ·
First of all, for those thinking that the start of Season 3 will coincide with Patch 2.3 going live, Bornakk says that it might not necessarily be the case. No date has been annouced but they will still give a two week notice prior to the start of Season 3.
As for the end of Season 2, Drysc just posted an important change that will affect the total number of teams qualifying…
While the date for the end of Season 2 has not yet been announced, we wanted to let everyone know beforehand about a change to the requirements for a team to be counted towards the total teams considered for the end of season rewards.
Our goal with this change is to remove teams from being counted that could not already be eligible for the end of season rewards. By not counting them we’re effectively limiting the pool of teams that are added up before calculating the final 0.5% for the end of season rewards.
The requirements for a team to be counted (both requirements must be met):
- The team must have played at least 20 games during the season.
- The team must have at least one player that has played in 20% or more of the total games for that team.
As the requirement to be eligible for the end of season rewards is also 20% participation for the entire season, this overlap merely ensures that teams that have active and eligible members will be counted. -Drysc

Sounds fair enough, removing inactive teams so they dont produce extra Gladiator slots.
Then again, if i were near a good ranking and getting dumped out of a title by this change, i would be mad and probably demanding this not to go live before S3.

Sorry to double post, but there was this link http://www.arenajunkies.com/calculator/ in the thread, has interesting info about the battlegroup users, of course, it will be unaccurate with this recent changes : /

When you look at the top 10 2v2 teams in Bloodlust 5 of them would be classified as inactive by this rule.
I know my old BG (Ruin) was the same. All in all it might be a good thing if you are knocking on the door of gladiator rank.

Warcraft three, they reset the ladders about three to four times a year, this should be the same with WoW PvP.
Not fair to get a high rank and never use it if they go AFK for months and inactive.. that way how can you get a top rank if the top rank teams are never there? you could get farmers selling them off… seriously! They should either have an inactivity rule or reset ladders every now n then like war3.

I must agree with the above commentary.
Moreover, may we have full RSS feeding on the website ?

I think inactive team should loose e.g. 2-3% of their rating each week they do not play. This way a team is somehow forced to play and proove that they are still worth the ranking they have.
I believe many teams on the top just used a jump start at the beginning of the season with good gear, and now just sit there and wait if other teams come close.

If they do remove inactive teams, wont this just increase the amount of 2100 teams to get into gladiator? Isnt it top 0.5%? And with a few getting eliminated from 0.5%, wont there be more slots to fill it up with teams?

If teams are eliminated, there will be a reduction in the amount of Gladiator spots.
For example:
2000 Teams in your BG bracket
-400 Teams that did not meet requirements
——-
1600 Qualified Teams
2000 * 0.005 = 10 Gladiator Spots
1600 * 0.005 = 8 Gladiator Spots
2 Gladiator spots lost after removing disqualified teams
Now depending on your standing and who is in front of you, your chances for getting a Gladiator spot may actually increase.
In the above example, if you are standing #11 and 3 of the 400 teams that got eliminated for not meeting the requirements were ahead of you, you will actually move up into a gladiator spot. But that is only for a few select situations like the one above. For all cases, Gladiator spots will be fewer. That is the reason for the “Important Announcement”.

Yeah but as inactive team they talk about teams that have no players with 20% or more game played. This is actually to counter the people who leveled up teams gave them to their alt and leveled another team to the top. You see many of those in 2v2 where the same pair of players will have more than 1 charter in the top 20 or so.
I don’t think that will affect the people who played their games early in the season and then decided to retire with high ratings since more than likely those people will conserve 20% games played and up on their original charter.
